Sewing Classes

If you have a sewing machine, but you don’t know how to use it, this class will get you started.  Learn how to thread your machine, wind a bobbin and use the basic utility stitches while completing a project.

This is a free class if you recently purchased your sewing machine from Waldorf Sew N Vac (pay only the $5 kit fee).

Class Fee: $40 + Kit Fee: $5


This is the perfect class if you have never sewn before, or if you need a refresher class. You will learn the basics of sewing machine operation while you construct your very own tote bag.  Fabric and thread to make your tote bag are included.  This is a two-session class.

Class Fee: $50 + Kit Fee: $5

In this class we will construct a pillow with covered cord trim and a hidden zipper.

Class Fee: $40   

February 21 9:30am – 12:00pm

Supplies needed:

16” Pillow Form

1 yard of decorator fabric, or 1/2 yard each of 2 coordinating fabrics

14″ nylon teeth zipper

matching thread

(Cording will be provided)

Learn how to thread your serger, adjust tensions, differential feed and cutting width. Use a 3 and 4 thread overlock and a rolled hem.

Class Fee: $40

Learn the basics of measuring and pattern reading. Construct a skirt with a zipper. A basic knowledge of sewing machine operation is required. Supplies will be needed for this class. This is a four-session class.

Class Fee: $90

Please bring the following supplies:

  • McCall’s Pattern 3830 – Have someone in the fabric store to measure your waist and hip to determine what size pattern you need, then purchase the amount fabric for that size and the skirt you’re going to make
  • Sewing Kit which should include scissors, tape measure, pin cushion, seam gauge
  • Tracing paper
  • Smooth edge tracing wheel
  • Iron on interfacing
  • Thread to match fabric
  • 7 inch zipper to match fabric
  • Quilting pins (these pins are longer with the color heads on them, i.e, yellow, white)

August 11,18, 25, and September 1st – 10:30am – 12:30pm

Do you want to know how to insert zippers or make better buttonholes for your sewing projects?  Choose one class and create a zipper or a buttonhole sampler. We will use techniques that help make it easier. The zipper sampler includes 4 types of zippers. The sampler for the buttonholes includes a bound buttonhole and a machine stitched buttonhole. 2 ½ Hour Session per class.

Class Fee: $50 + Kit fee: $10

Please bring the following sewing supplies:

  • Scissors
  • Stick pins
  • Spool of 100% polyester thread

This is a beginner quilting class in which you will learn to create a sampler of nine 12″ blocks. It will be your choice of method to piece your quilt together; choose from hand piecing or machine sewing. 2 hour session. Sample available for viewing in store.

Class Fee: $125

Please bring the following supplies:

  • Fabric – 100%cotton fabric that has been washed and ironed.
    • Choose your main focus fabric – 1 1/4 yards
    • Select three other fabrics, 1/2 yard each, that coordinate with the main focus fabric. One of the fabrics should include the background fabric (white or cream). One of the selected fabrics you choose will be used for sashing. You will also need 2 yards for the backing and about 2 yards of batting.
  • Rotary cutter
  • Rotary cutting ruler
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine – with a 1/4 inch foot
  • Pins
  • Seam Ripper
  • Sewing thread (all purpose)
  • Quilting pins

If you are hand piecing, you will also need the following:

  • Hand piecing quilting thread
  • Beeswax
  • Quilting needles size 7 or 8
  • Pencil
  • Thimble

Do you need help finishing or starting a sewing project?  Bring your pattern and all sewing supplies and notions needed to work on the project. Your sewing skills must meet the project level.  Let’s get together and work through it.  The instructor will help you work on steps to reach your sewing goals. 2 Hour Session.
